Batthyany Blue and Purple - BAT, BATP

Pieces in the sedately simple Batthyány design are decorated with gilded motifs of stylised leaves and tiny flowers with just a few petals, laid out flat. The elegance of the snow-white porcelain is enhanced by contour stripes in gold and cobalt blue. The plain border is adorned with three larger leaf motifs, separated by pairs of smaller flower motifs.

History of the Batthyány – BAT – design: The Batthyány pattern was introduced in ~1840 on a service made for Count Lajos Batthyány. The BAT design won a medal at the national Industrial Exhibition of 1842. Batthyány later became Hungary’s first prime minister.
