VH - Fishnet and Fish Scale Design
The first VH Herend item, a figurine decorated with a feather-like scaled design was made in 1871. Back then, the famous Hungarian writer Mór Jókai received a rooster with this pattern. The legend really started in the 1930’s and the scaled pattern soon became known worldwide as Herend’s specialty. A variety of different animal figurines became sought after collectors pieces. Recently a wider range of colors appeared in addition to the original red and beside gold ornamentation. Platinum accents has become more and more popular.
It is almost impossible to imitate this pattern, as the narrow ow widening scales can be applied to the uneven surfaces by hand painting only. Various limited series make the “Vieux Herend” figurines even more popular, some using a combination of different colors. The collection is increasing year by year. This Hallmark design of Herend has also been applied on different dinnerware items, which can be seen below.
